There is nothing quite like a moist and fluffy banana bread with swirls of chocolate, and in about an hour you can have it on your table! It’s simple to make, uses nutritious ingredients, and contains no dairy or eggs.
I don’t think I’ve made banana bread since quarantine, so this recipe is a little overdue. Definitely worth the wait though!
This is my favorite banana bread recipe ever. It's low in added sugar, super fluffy, and moist. However, it is a bit of work and it does use eggs, so if you want a vegan recipe, one swirled with chocolate, and/or one that's easy to make, this is the one for you!

ingredients in healthy marbled banana bread
- all purpose flour: binds the cake together while also keeping it light and fluffy.
- white whole wheat flour: this gives the cake more fiber, but not so much that it affects the texture. The main thing it does is make this cake more filling!
- coconut sugar: cane sugar or any granulated sugar is great here, to keep the cake sweet. Pretty self-explanatory. 🙂
- oil: flour-based desserts need oil to keep them moist! I used avocado oil because it's high in omega-3 fatty acids, but any neutral-tasting oil works here.
- nondairy milk: milk is a standard ingredient in most cakes, so it is a simple switch to nondairy milk. My favorite is oat milk, but you can also use almond, soy, coconut, etc.
- apple cider vinegar: in a recipe that doesn't have eggs, apple cider vinegar is very important for leavening. I recommend having this on hand at all times because it's useful in many recipes (many of my recipes have this as well)!
- bananas: pretty important in a banana bread recipe! Make sure they are super ripe to optimize the sweetness.
- cocoa powder: you'll add cocoa powder to the chocolate portion, with a bit of extra oat milk, sugar, and chocolate chips.
- flaxseed meal: acts as a binder since there are no eggs, and adds some extra protein, fiber, and healthy fats!
