Ingredients
  

  • 1 ¼ cup all purpose flour plus more to knead
  • ¾ cup white whole wheat flour
  • up to ½ cup flaxseed meal optional
  • ¼ cup olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 cup dairy free milk of choice warm
  • 2 tablespoons sugar, maple syrup, or honey
  • 2 ¼ teaspoon active dry yeast or 1 packet

garlic topping

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 3 tablespoons melted butter/vegan butter/olive oil
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon italian seasoning
  • parsley, to top optional

Instructions
 

  • In a medium bowl, mix the warm milk with sugar and add the yeast. The milk should be slightly warmer than room temperature; anything too hot or too cold will kill the yeast.

  • Cover the dough with a towel or wrap.

  • Leave to rise for about an hour--it should have significantly risen.

  • Remove the dough from the bowl and knead in more all purpose flour just until it no longer sticks--it should not be dry!

  • Divide the dough into 12 equal sections. Roll each into a string and tie a knot (see pictures).
